Millicent Shelton
Millicent Shelton makes her feature debut with RIDE, a Hip Hop road comedy with heart. Shelton, herself a sought after music video director, based the story on a reallife, outofcontrol bus ride bringing young Harlem talent to a video shoot in Florida.
A native of St. Louis and graduate of Princeton University, Shelton got her start in 1988 when she became a production assistant on Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing. She moved on to be a production assistant on The Cosby Show, before starting classes in the prestigious graduate film program at NYU. While at NYU, she began assisting on music videos as a way of getting paid experience and because she loved the whole Hip Hop culture. Eventually, producer Hurby Luv Bug Azor let her direct her own video Expression, for the platinumselling female rap trio SaltnPepa.
She has gone on to direct videos for Mary J. Blige, MC Lyte, R. Kelly, Aaliyah, Heavy D and Ce Ce Peniston among others.
