Have you guys heard of Sumo? Basically on this website (sumo.tv) you can watch loads of classic movies for free, including loads of Charlie Chaplin classics.

They have got loads of cool movies, and even old animations like Betty Boop - i love it!

Did he ever do more than entertain? (Wed Feb 14, 2007 12:37pm ET)report post

Did he make a social impact on society, short or long term, other than entertaining the United States, Britain and the rest of the world?

I mean, he was knighted, so he must've contributed to society somehow, other than just the industry. Elton John was knighted, and he is a big Aids Awareness advocate.

Any ideas?

I am also a huge fan of Charlie Chaplin. My 15-year-old daughter scoffed at the idea of watching an old black and white film with no sound until I convinced her to sit down and watch just one Charlie Chaplin film with me. We watched "The Circus". By the end of it, she was laughing so hard, she was in tears. I realized with all the progress in film making, nothing will ever replace pure comic genius and Charlie will never run out of fans.
