ON A MAN WHO LOVES HARRY POTTER AND STEVE KLOVES (Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:41pm ET)report post

I was strolling randomly on the esteemed busy streets of YouTube yesterday. I was anxious to hear about what was going on with the newest Harry Potter picture.

I came across a strange little man who called himself the bandgeek8408.

He made an amusing little hate video where a die-hard Harry Potter-tarian (my term) who has good and pissed about Steve Klove's work on the Harry Potter movie series. He even composed a little ditty about how much he hates him, the movie's in musical form.

I remember thinking, Wow... this is pretty funny. But this kind of purity devotion can't be healthy. Or a good sign.

Dude, I can't tell if the little bank geek at 8408 YouTube is serious or not.

God help if it is.... But look, what do you want, Mr. Bank Geek? "Harry Potter" screenwriter Steve Kloves follows the books almost word-for-word. He's slavishly faithful to Rowling's books.

What about the guy who took over when Kloves took a leave to do a personal project. Michael Goldenberg. Does he think he did any better a job with "Phoenix?" Would the geek or anyone else rather he was doing the series?

Rowling hand-picked the hatchet-job Kloves to write the "Harry Potter screenplays. Too many people treat the "Harry Potter" works as sacred scripture. As if it were The Bible.

Yeah, Kloves says Hermione is his favorite. He's more of an editor than anything else. He just toes the line, being careful to color inside the lines. He's not given a lot of room to ad-lib. But when he does, it's often pretty sharp.

Some Hollywood writer changes one measely line that wasn't in the Holy Book and a legion of religious fanatics scream, "Blasphemy! Sacrilege!"

When you start taking every word, every syllable, every letter, coma, punctuation mark, period of a children's book series to heart... making it life or death in your case...

I personally think that's where you get in trouble.

Well, that's my take. What's yours?

No More Potters? (Fri Jul 29, 2005 7:39pm ET)report post

I just found out that Kloves has just handed over the Potter scriptwriting mantle to Michael Goldenberg, a playwrite who worked on Contact and Peter Pan. I wonder if there may be a longer story behind this move; a more detailed explanation might be interesting.

Please note that the word is playwright, not playwrite.

Thanks.

I have a few questions for Steve Kloves. Do you know of an email address or phone number or something that could help me get a hold of him.
Thanks a bunch,
Shelby

It is (310) 288-4545. His agents are David O'Connor and Lee Gabler at the CAA Agency. I have a few questions for Steve Kloves about "Wonder Boys", and so far I could not get closer. Email address would be most suitable for me...

I´ve seen this 1989 film over fifty times already, and I still amaze at the scenes, dialog, music & acting.
Steve Kloves was underrated for this film and his contribution to filmaking
Big smile
