I want remenber them that: -culture and history of Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples ecc.. -Magna grecia -Rinascimento, the most important genius in the history (Leonardo da Vinci),Raffaello, Tiziano ecc. -Cristoforo Colombo,Caboto and who called America in this way (AMERIGO VESPUCCI) Who discoverd phone (Meucci), radio (Marconi), modern Science ( GALileo Galiei), Volta, Cassini, Fermi ecc. Italy is the 5th powerfull industrial country in the world. I could continue... I'm proud to be italian! Sorry for my english. I has been studing it since seven weeks.... Comment on this... |

| by Valerie Dear Sirs, I am sending my opinion about the Captain's Corelli Mandolin (a copy of Mediterraneo by Salvatores) , hoping that English people and especially whoever decides to be called director as John Madden, can change idea both about Italians and about History. The movie shows the complete lack of knowledge of history, language and culture of Italy. The unbelievable thing is that the director has declared that without shame. Personally I know the history of the Second World War, 5 languages and I am journalist. Well I am scandalised about the behaviour not only of the actors, but about the screenplay where Greece was for Italians a very good place where to spend...a war. Not considering that Italian troops (like English troops in Libya-Tripolitania against Italian women) raped, stool and killed. The best thing in the film is the mandolin: Mister Madden declared he didn't know this was a sterotype against Italians and sorry but we for sure cannot believe that. Spaghetti and Mandolino are the best traditional objects of Italian culture in the perspective of anglosaxons. For your information both of them are proper of the South of Italy, the same Land where the Magna Grecia gave the best witnesses of the History. The painful Captain's Corelli Mandolin includes all these hateful stereotypes which could let English people have the illusion to be very educated and powerful, even if exactely as Italy lost their empire. The only difference between Englishes and Italians is that the England starts to have an acceptable culture, from the XIVth Century, i.e. 2100 years after the starting of the real history and culture of Rome. My compliments! I try to avoid my comments about Penelpe Cruz, very painful as actress and Italian girl. Thanks Mr. Madden to celebrate in this way the thousands and thousands Italian soldiers massacred in Cefalonia. They have been massacred by Germans and once prisoniers of these, by the RAF planes on the board of the German ships. We were enemies of English, that's true, but please do not forget to have supported Hitler in the first steps in policy with a great simpathy. Italian soldiers were the same as English all over the world, as the conquerers do. Finally, in case you don't know Corelli is the name of the most famous and wonderful Italian musicians (XVII Century). N.B.
