Bill Condon Biography (2)
Condon' s previous directorial effort, Gods and Monsters, was named Best Picture by the National Board of Review, and Condon received the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. A poetic meditation on the final days of film director James Whale, Gods and Monsters starred Ian McKellen (Academy Award nominee for Best Actor), Brendan Fraser, and Lynn Redgrave (Golden Globe winner, Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress).
Condon began his career as a film journalist. A long analytical piece in Millimeter magazine brought him to the attention of producer Michael Laughlin. He subsequently co-wrote the feature film Strange Behavior with Laughlin, who also directed the film. The film became an unlikely cult hit, leading to an unofficial sequel, Strange Invaders.
Condon was born in New York City. He attended Regis High School and Columbia University, where he graduated with a degree in philosophy. He currently lives in Los Angeles.
