| by Steven John Bosch I have just seen "The Ninth Day" at the New Community Cinema in Huntington, Long Island, New York. The film is splendid and the discerning viewer will carry away a lot from it. Ulrich Matthes is brillant as the Roman Catholic Priest Abbe Kremer. It is the Passion story told in World War II Luxembourg and told brillantly. The arguments and challenges are in the plot and characters. Sister Joan Chittester of the American Benedictine sisters has called spirituality theology with legs. In this story, spirituality and theology animate and drive the story along. It is a brillant film and Schlondorff's technical team and cast are to be congratulated. Comment on this... |
