Ned Vizzini

Ned Vizzini began his writing career at age 15.

His three young-adult books have been honored by The Today Show Book Club; the American Library Association; BookSense; The New York Public Library; and with Austria's JugendLITERAturpreis, the latter given to It's Kind of a Funny Story.

Mr. Vizzini's was first published in New York Press, an alternative weekly newspaper that printed his true-life stories from Stuyvesant High School (later the inspiration for Executive Pre-Professional High School in It's Kind of a Funny Story). These stories were collected in his first book, Teen Angst? Naaah... (2000),which was reissued in 2010 in a new trade paperback edition from Random House.

His next book was the novel Be More Chill (2004), the story of a high school dork who gets a pill that makes him cool. The success of the book yielded higher-profile speaking and writing assignments, as well as self-imposed pressure that led to a hospital stay and It's Kind of a Funny Story (2006).

Mr. Vizzini currently writes for The New York Times Book Review; speaks all over the U.S. about writing and mental health; and is at work on a new young-adult novel. He lives in Brooklyn and knows how lucky he is.
