Brent Butt

Brent Butt was the creator, head writer, showrunner, executive producer, star and sometime director of CORNER GAS. Brent also starred as the shows lead character.

Prior to CORNER GAS, Butt spent 15 years making people laugh on the stand-up circuit and quickly gained a reputation as one of the funniest men in the country. He's the recipient of four Canadian Comedy Awards including Best Male Stand-Up in 2001, Best TV Performance by a Male two years in a row, 2004 and 2005, and Best Writing, TV Series in 2004. In 2008 he was presented with the Comedy Network's Sir Peter Ustinov Award at the World Television Festival in Banff– an honour he shares with some of his comedic idols, including Bob Newhart, John Cleese and John Candy. Brent Leroy – and was voted Favourite Male Star in a 2004 TV Guide Reader Poll.

He has been a regular gala performer at the Just For Laughs Festival and hosted the World Comedy Tour in Singapore and Australia. He has performed for Queen Elizabeth and has thrown out the first pitch at Wrigley Field.

Butt recently signed a deal with Vancouver's Brightlight Pictures, to write, produce and star in a feature film, and is currently working on his own network special for CTV. Somehow he still manages to find time to pursue his first love, stand-up.
