Vanessa Haywood was a finalist in the Miss South Africa contest which launched her international modeling career. Later, she settled in Cape Town, where she studied drama and started her career as a television presenter on programs such as Wildlife Warehouse, AgriTV, and the Afrikaans-language nature program Groen, as well as South Africa's premiere television magazine program Top Billing as field presenter. She has also appeared in a number of commercials.
In recent years, Haywood has been exploring opportunities in film. She has had roles in both Hey Boy and the Edward Zwick-directed Blood Diamond.
