Sasha Pivovarova was born in Moscow, Russia. She was a girl who never dreamed of becoming a model. But everything began after a friend and photographer, Igor Vishnyakov, took photos of her. He knew she had something special, so he then gave them to IMG and her career took off. Before this, she was studying art history at Russian University for the Humanities. Soon after she signed with IMG in 2005, she walked for Prada. After that, she did the campaign for Prada. She made fashion history by being the face of Prada for 6 consecutive seasons and was the first model to do so. As of 2008, she has appeared in over 9 Prada ads. However she will not appear in Prada's Fall 08 campaign, which will feature Linda Evangelista. She is ranked 2nd on the Top 50 Models Women list by models.com, sharing the spot with fellow top fashion model, Isabeli Fontana.

In the May 2007 issue of American Vogue she was featured on the cover with fellow models Doutzen Kroes, Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmermann, Jessica Stam, Agyness Deyn, Coco Rocha, Hilary Rhoda, Chanel Iman, and Lily Donaldson as the new crop of supermodels. In her interview, she talked about her love for art and reading. Her current project was reading the book War and Peace. Recently, in August and September of 2007, she was on another two covers of Vogue. Russian Vogue and British Vogue, back to back. Recently Sasha has appeared in the 2008 Pirelli calendar and in the May 2008 issue of Australian Vogue.

When asked what her favorite part of the job is, she said the photo shoots and traveling. She told CNN in an interview, that she gets to meet people and see places that she would never be able to meet or see, if it had not been for modeling. She is known for her horse-like walk, muscular body, small pupils and dark undereyes, and feline like features. Also her height, natural appearance, and goofy/fun personality backstage and serious personality on the runway.
