| by John Warwick Arden Hi Gil, Just a fan from Australia, writing to let you know my fiance and I watched your film last night, "Deal" on DVD. I have to say, knowing nothing about you yesterday, I picked up your disc in a specialist store, and when I brought it home, I looked up the reviews and saw on RT a rating of zero. I note IMDB was a little more lenient with a score of around five. Let me just say we thought your film was a cracker. I agree with NONE of the reviews, and think your film has, at least based on my research, been unfairly maligned. There is some talk that the acting was bad, and that the direction was bad. They are full of ****. The film was excellent on all levels, including the choice of music, the durning cameo, (a brief shot of Jimmy Woods?) and it is good to see reynolds back in something that reminded me a little of the film "Breaking In", a fave of mine (being a fan of anything John Sayles has written) I have been a writer for ten years, and a film buff since birth, and I know how hard it is to reinvent a well worn genre. Having just watched Cincinatti Kid last week, I thought your film stood up to the classic extremely well. You did a superb job, mate. I never saw the Shannon Elizabeth thing coming, nor did I expect 'the kid' to fold the way he did. Well done you, and all concerned; thoroughly enjoyed the film, and will watch again. Sorry there was no commentary on the version we got. Look forward to your next project, I believe entitled 'Chaos Theory'; sounds like an absolute pearler. Good stuff mate, keep it up.
