David Zayas

While an officer in the New York Police Department, David Zayas caught a performance of A FEW GOOD MEN on Broadway. The play was an inspiration, and David soon enrolled in acting classes at Ernie Martin's studio. Studying around his busy police officer schedule, David learned his craft.

Soon after, David teamed up with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and John Ortiz to become a part of the now renowned Labyrinth Theatre Company. David starred in plays that reinvented the New York theatre. JESUS HOPPED THE 'A' TRAIN, IN ARABIA WE'D ALL BE KINGS and OUR LADY OF 121ST ST. are just some of the many works that David participated in through his theatre company.

After doing approximately 30 plays, Tom Fontana met David and cast him in the HBO series OZ. David played the ringleader of the Latino prisoners, Enrique Morales. His performance terrified and captivated viewers for three seasons and led to feature film offers from Martin Scorsese (BRINGING OUT THE DEAD), James Gray (THE YARDS), John Leguizamo (UNDEFEATED), Mike Nichols (WIT) and Jim McKay (ANGEL).

Most recently, David starred on Broadway opposite Jimmy Smits in the Pulitzer Prize winning ANNA IN THE TROPICS. The play ran at the Royale Theatre for over a hundred performances.

Last spring, David was seen co-starring opposite Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman in the Universal feature THE INTERPRETER, directed by Sydney Pollack.

Currently, Mr. Zayas is in SIXTEEN BLOCKS, playing the corrupt Detective Robert Torres opposite Bruce Willis and Mos Def.

In May 2006 he will be seen on ABC starring opposite Harvey Keitel in THE UNTITLED HISTORY PROJECT and this fall he will star with Michael C. Hall in the much anticipated Showtime series, DEXTER.

Lastly, he just wrapped shooting MICHAEL CLAYTON opposite George Clooney and Sydney Pollack for Castle Rock films.

Mr. Zayas resides in New York and Los Angeles with his wife, Liza.
