Carlos Alvarez Novoa

For over forty years, Carlos Álvarez has dedicated his life to theater as an actor, director, playright and teacher. He began his career as an actor in 1957 with the Spanish University Theater Group (T.E.U.). A few years later he was directing this and other Theatre groups in Seville, Madrid and Barcelona.

Mr. Álvarez has played roles in most of the classics and in plays written by the most renowned contemporary authors. He has been a prolific playwright including titles such as: Cigarras y hormigas, La Merecedora, Pajaritos 27, Enamoradas de Bécquer, etc., and has directed some of the most acclaimed plays in the past few years.

In 1991, he played his first role in a feature film (Llanto por Granada, directed by Vicente Escrivá), followed by roles in titles such as: Al Andalus (Agustín Villalonga, 1992) or Los años bárbaros (Fernando Colomo, 1997). In 1999 he received the Goya Award as Best Emerging Actor for his role in Solas, directed by Benito Zambrano.
