Laura Putney

Laura was born in Minneapolis and moved all around the Midwest during her childhood. She started acting in elementary and high school, and in college she formed an improv and sketch comedy troupe, Idiom Savant, which performed at colleges and comedy venues throughout the Southeast. She also was a regular on an improvised radio show, The Mrs. Rosewater Show, on public radio. She put her acting ambitions on hold to attend Harvard Law School, but while there she continued to perform in plays and studied acting for a year at the American Repertory Theater.

After practicing law in New York for a few years, Laura decided to quit and move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Shortly after arriving in L.A., she booked a guest lead role on CBS's First Monday, where she captured the attention of show creator Don Bellisario. Don wrote a guest-star role for Laura on JAG as CIA attorney Catherine Gale, a role which quickly grew into a recurring character, and eventually became the love interest for David James Elliott over the course of two seasons.

Laura has also appeared on Enterprise, ER, State of Grace, The Random Years and several national commercials. Her first starring film role was in Tail Sting, and she recently spent a month in Brazil starring in the yet-to-be-released film Sunland Heat.

Laura continues to practice law on occasion, and she writes and performs sketch comedy as a member of the main company of ACME Comedy Theater. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and her daughter, Olivia, who was born in 2004.
