Special connection (Wed Feb 20, 2008 1:30pm ET)report post
by Astonished
I'm brought to tears reading these pages, feeling a special connection to people all over the world with the same addiction. I'm English but have lived in Sweden the past 30 years. About a month ago they showed P&P on Swedish telly (might have done before...). I saw only about half the film and got completely desperate. The next day I rented it, then bought the dvd. (Thank God for wide screen.) Have not been able to stop watching or thinking about him - but it's the ficticious Mr. Darcy portraid by MMmmmmm... (sorry) I'm in love with, along with the environment, the music, everything. I grew up with the book and have re-read it several times these last weeks, discovering a new dimension. This is the first time ever I have felt the least bit homesick. I feel absolutely stupid because I'm soon 50 years old and have been with my Swedish husband for 30 years, so I have to hide this addiction from him and our kids. But seeing all your comments I don't feel quite so abnormal and having written this I feel a sense of relief.

I know how you feel. I read this book when I was at school about 25 years ago. I just happened to rent the DVD last week and yes, Mr. Darcy as MM has truly bewitched me. He is absolutely gorgeous and stunning the way he portrayed his character along with the other cast. I love, love his eyes and voice! I have seen this film twice and can't wait to see more of his other works. I usually just watch a film once and have not felt this excitement and appreciation for an actor in a very long time. I am currently waiting for my order from Amazon (DAF, Soundtrack of P&P, DVD P&P).I am a SAM with a three year old daughter and I am happy to share my adoration for this great actor in this forum. I hope someday he will come to Japan to perform on stage where I can see him im real life.

I am so glad to see all of the others, that like me, want to do nothing but watch P&P over and over again because of Matthew...he is the most beautiful man I have ever seen. I cannot get those blue eyes out of my mind...I watch him as soon as I get home from work and look at his pics all day on the computer at work...he stirs up feelings that were long gone, what a wonderful, gorgeous man

all of you are expressing my exact sentiments. I've reread P&P for the first time in 30 years - watched the movie almost endlessly. Not just his soulful looks but his exquisite, resonant voice.....wish there were more of him!

I thoroughly enjoyed Pamela Aidan's trilogy for more "info" and insight into Darcy, all the while easily imagining Mattew Macfadyen as that character

I've never been 'taken' by an actor before. I love, I love, I love him. Matthew Macfadyen, where have you been all of my life?

I have enjoyed only one of his films ! Pride and Prejudice ! I just recieved the movie for christmas ! I believe it is my favorite movie of all time ! But only being 15 it's not quite far to others ! but i do enjoy him ! he is a very gifted actor ! i can't seem to get enough of the movie ! i was shocked when i googled him because of his hair ! I personally think he looks most dashing ( if u would ! ) with long hair ......like in the movie ! I hope you have future films of the likeness to this one !

Love Matthew's Darcy (Mon Dec 25, 2006 4:06am ET)report post

This version of P&P is the best by far. I have my own personal Darcy at home that does scenes with me. Sooo fun. We both love the way Matthew plays Darcy. His stature, voice, and ability to be painfully shy and misunderstood to be arrogant at the same time is fasinating.
He complimented Keira so well. The whole movie including the music and comical moments were well directed. It touched our emotions like nothing else in a long time.
