The company also produced Simpatico, based on the play by Sam Shepard and released by Fine Line Features. Directed by Matthew Warchus, the film stars Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte, Sharon Stone, Albert Finney and Catherine Keener.
Kingsgate's first production was Affliction, based on the novel by Russell Banks, adapted and directed by Paul Schrader, and starring Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek, Willem Dafoe and James Coburn. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Nolte and Coburn. Coburn received the award for Best Supporting Actor.
Upcoming productions in development include Neverwas, which was written and will be directed by Josh Stern. The film will star Aaron Eckhart, Ian McKellen, Nick Nolte and Alan Cumming. Other projects include Rise, a horror thriller written and to be directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, which marks the company's second collaboration with Senator International (following Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle) and The Rum Diary, based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson, which will star Johnny Depp and Josh Hartnett.
