Greg Shapiro

Greg Shapiro formed Kingsgate Films in partnership with Nick Nolte. Kingsgate produced Roger Avary's The Rules of Attraction, based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. Released by Lions Gate Films in the fall of 2002, the film stars James Van der Beek, Shannyn Sossamon, Ian Somerhalder, Eric Stolz and Faye Dunaway.

Other productions include Investigating Sex, written and directed by Alan Rudolph. The film, based on a series of dialogues amongst the surrealists in Paris, stars Dermot Mulroney, Neve Campbell, Robin Tunney, Nick Nolte, Tuesday Weld, Jeremy Davies, Til Schweiger, Julie Delpy and Alan Cumming.

The company also produced Simpatico, based on the play by Sam Shepard and released by Fine Line Features. Directed by Matthew Warchus, the film stars Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte, Sharon Stone, Albert Finney and Catherine Keener.

Kingsgate's first production was Affliction, based on the novel by Russell Banks, adapted and directed by Paul Schrader, and starring Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek, Willem Dafoe and James Coburn. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Nolte and Coburn. Coburn received the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Upcoming productions in development include Neverwas, which was written and will be directed by Josh Stern. The film will star Aaron Eckhart, Ian McKellen, Nick Nolte and Alan Cumming. Other projects include Rise, a horror thriller written and to be directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, which marks the company's second collaboration with Senator International (following Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle) and The Rum Diary, based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson, which will star Johnny Depp and Josh Hartnett.
