Biography #2 (for Carandiru)

Santoro learned his art in TV Globo's Oficina de Atores. His film debut came in the short Depois do Escuro (1996), by Dirceu Lustosa, filmed in Brasilia. His breakthrough came in 2000 in the role of Neto in Bicho de Sete Cabe(as (Lais Bodanzky). He won the Best Actor award in the Brasilia and Recife festivals and the Prêmio BR do Cinema Brasileiro, conferred by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema for the role. He has played in six serials (Olho no 0lho, Pátria Minha, Explode Cora(cco, O Amor Estd no Ar, Suave Veneno, Estrela Guia). He is currently starring in Mulheres Apaixonadas. He played in one episode of Comédia da Vida Privada and in the miniseries Hilda Furaccco. On stage, he has played the title role in D Artagnan a The Three Musketeers. Having first appeared on television and because of his good looks, Rodrigo was seen as a typical small screen idol until playing in Bicho de Sete Cabe(as and then in Behind the Sun, by Walter Salles. He stood out so much in the two movies that Columbia Pictures invited him to play a special part in Charlie's Angels II. In Carandiru, Rodrigo Santoro takes another step toward his personal goal of playing diversified, complex roles, not getting typecast as a soap opera heartthrob. His character, the transvestite Lady Di, has an affair of the heart with No Way (Gero Camilo).
