Hideo Nakata (born July 19, 1961) is a Japanese film director. He was born in Okayama. His most familiar works to Western audiences are Ringu and Dark Water. Ringu was later remade in America as The Ring. Nakata is scheduled to make his English-language debut with True Believers and has been tapped to direct The Ring 2, the sequel to The Ring, the American remake of Ringu.
