Rainbow Sun Francks
Toronto-born Rainbow Sun Francks is a triple-threat talent: a songwriter and producer for the hip-hop group The Oddities, a top VJ for Canada's MuchMusic channel and a Gemini-nominated actor. Maybe it's something in his genes — he's the son of musician, artist, activist and actor Don Franks (best known to TV viewers as Walter in USA Network's La Femme Nikita) and dancer Lili Francks, and the brother of actress and musician Cree Summer (Winifred Freddie Brooks on the TV series A Different World, and the voice of Rugrats' Suzie Carmichael, of Princess Kida in the Disney animated feature Atlantis: The Lost Empire and much more).
The African-Canadian Francks played Frank Johnson in two of the Black Fox series of TV-movie Westerns, The Price of Peace and Good Men and Bad. He co-starred in the acclaimed 1997 CBC telefilm The Planet of Junior Brown, adapted from the Newberry Award-winning novel, and was nominated for a Gemini, the Canadian Emmy-equivalent, for the 1999 TV-movie One Heart Broken Into Song, a drama about Nova Scotia's segregated black community in the 1930s. Other films and telefilms include 2000's Love Come Down and Love Song.
