John Dullaghan

John Dullaghan was born in Alameda, CA in 1962. After living spending much of his teens in Lynchburg, VA, he moved back to California to attend U.C. Berkeley, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a focus on 20th Century American Literature. Starting out as a copywriter for Suzuki, John spent more than 15 years in the advertising industry, where he won numerous international awards for writing commercial and print campaigns for Apple Computer. He also worked on an IBM image film with Errol Morris.

While in New York for the IBM film, John blindly contacted Albert Maysles upon learning that his office was only a few blocks from where the film was shooting. Al warmly received him and over the next few months, John would drop by and ask Al questions about the documentary art. Maysles lent John his films, and their tape-recorded discussions about how they were made formed the basis for John's education in documentary filmmaking. Bukowski: Born Into This is his first feature film. He lives in Southern California with his family.
