Hugh Dancy most recently appeared in the role of Essex in the HBO and Channel Four joint venture,
Elizabeth I, opposite
Helen Mirren in the title role and
Jeremy Irons. His other recent appearances include the feature films
Shooting Dogs;

Sharon Stone;
Ella Enchanted;
King Arthur;

Melanie Griffith; and
The Sleeping Dictionary, with
Jessica Alba, as well as
Ridley Scott's

Ewan McGregor and
Josh Hartnett.
After graduating from Oxford with a degree in English Literature, Dancy moved to London from Staffordshire to pursue his acting career. After appearances in such television series as Trial and Retribution II, Kavanagh QC and Cold Feet, Dancy was cast in 1998 as David Copperfield for Hallmark and TNT's adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel.
