Silvia Colloca

Select Italian audiences know Silvia Colloca mainly for her stage work in her home country, but Van Helsing will introduce Colloca to a vast international audience.

Although often compared to beautiful Italian actress Monica Bellucci (who, coincidentally, also played one of Dracula's brides in Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula), Colloca comes from an entirely different background.

She always wanted to be an actress and so her mother and father elected to put her into acting school at the age of 13, where she studied drama for seven years.

Colloca also attended the prestigious Music Academy of Milan for four years, where she developed a mezzo-soprano voice, and this led to her being cast in many notable Italian musical theater productions. During this time, she worked with some of her country's outstanding directors, including Maestro Giuseppe Patroni Griffi.

In 2002, while she was in Switzerland filming the television series The Lawyer, she was told that American director Stephen Sommers was keen to meet her for his new project. Within 10 days, Silvia was offered the role of Verona, Dracula's Queen Bride in Van Helsing, which marks her feature film debut.
