To record his beautiful and moving score for The Passion of the Christ Debney went to London, with a full orchestra and choir, to capture the powerful emotions of this epic film. The choir sang and chanted in Aramaic for the film's score. Debney incorporated ancient instruments into the score for authenticity with nearly 100 musicians.
John has recently finished New Line Cinema's ELF (2003) starring Will Ferrell and Universal's RAISING HELEN (2004) starring Kate Hudson and produced by Garry Marshall. Other recent projects include: BRUCEALMIGHTY (2003) starring Jim Carrey directed by Tom Shadyac. THE TUXEDO (2002) starring Jackie Chan and THE SCORPION KING (2002) starring The Rock. SPY KIDS 1(2001) & SPY KIDS II: ISLAND OF LOST DREAMS (2002), THE PRINCESS DIARIES I & 11(2001), (2004), Disney's SNOW DOGS (2002) and JIMMY NEUTRON: BOY GENIUS (2002).
Debney was involved with two of the biggest hits of 1997. One being the Jim Carrey comic blockbuster LIAR LIAR (which has grossed over $300 million worldwide), directed by Tom Shadyac. That same year, Debney scored Columbia Pictures/Mandalay Entertainment's horror thriller IKNO W WHAT YOUDID LAST SUMMER. In addition to his composing projects, Debney has embarked on a series of recordings of classic film scores for Varese Sarabande records, conducting works like SUPERMAN (1980), THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, TITANIC (1995) and BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985) with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
