George Arliss was a truly great actor, whose suavity, subtlety and charming personality carried him through three eras--the Victorian stage, the silent screen and sound films--with immense success. I never tire of watching his movies--even if they're corny and he occasionally totters over into excessive drama, his energy and wit are still mesmerizing.
