Michael Nyman Forum
| ||
| by Ekene London born Michael Nyman is one of our most outstanding contemporary composers. Famous for a variety of ensembles, stage works and live performances, his music has reached its largest audience by way of his film scores, most famously for Peter Greenaway, with whom he collaborated on eleven movies. Other directors with whom he has worked with include Jane Campion (The Piano), Volker Schlöndorff (The Ogre), Neil Jordan (The End of the Affair), Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland, The Claim, 9 Songs and A Cock and a Bull story) and Dorota Kedzierzawska (Jestem – I Am). Clearly a master in composing music for other people’s films, Nyman has devised his own presentation to share for the very first time his pleasure in adding music to his own visual images. On 21 April at Whitechapel’s Genesis Cinema Nyman, through a series of short films shot in and around London and during his many trips abroad, will offer audiences a rare insight into his methods of working, the sources of his inspiration and the reasons for his lifelong relationship with visuals and sound. An Audience with Michael Nyman will be held on the 21 April at Genesis Cinema, 7.00pm. A screening of I Am scored by Michael Nyman follows this event in the Genesis Cinema at 8.00pm.
