Heavy D

Born in Jamaica, West Indies, Heavy D grew up in Mount Vernon, New York, where he started developing his rap skills at eight years of age and began making demo tapes in junior high school. He formed the group Heavy D and the Boyz and went on to earn three Grammy nominations and to sell over six million records.

Heavy D also served as Chairman of Uptown Records, working with the multi-platinum group Jodeci and artist Mary J. Blige. He continues to produce records for artists including Jay-Z, Lenny Kravitz, Timbaland, Carl Thomas, and he is currently in the studio with Toni Braxton.

In addition to his music career, Heavy D has a successful acting career, with roles in the features The Deli, Life starring Eddie Murphy, Lasse Hallstrom's The Cider House Rules with Tobey Maguire, Barry Sonnenfeld's Big Trouble and the upcoming Dallas 362, with Scott Caan and Jeff Goldblum. He also received a Drama Desk nomination for his role in the play Riff Raff, written and directed by Lawrence Fishburn.

On television, Heavy D has had several recurring roles on shows including Roc, Living Single, and most recently, Boston Public. Additionally, he composed and performs the main title theme for The Tracy Morgan Show, and composed the title themes for In Living Color and Mad TV. Heavy D currently resides in Los Angeles. His birthday is May 24.
