Pierre-Paul Renders
Pierre-Paul Renders was born in Brussels, Belgium, in 1963. Degree in Classical Philology from the University of Louvain,1984. Graduate degree in film from the Institut des Arts de Diffusion, Louvain-la-Neuve, in1989. He has directed many short films and video productions since 1987, dividing his time equally between documentary and fiction. Renders contributed an episode to the anthology film Septs pies capitaux ( Seven Deadly Sins), which was presented in the Critic's Week (Settimana della critica) program at the Venice International Film Festival in 1992.
In 1993-94 he directed several episodes of the Belgian television series Double sept (Seventy Seven) for RTBF-Charleroi, and produced, wrote and edited seven documentaries for the Nobel Prize-winning relief agency Micens sans Fronties (Doctors Without Borders). Thomas in Love ( Thomas est amoureux, 2000), based upon an over-abundant script by his friend and frequent collaborator Philippe Blasband, is Renders' first feature film. The film, Renders says, "has a single goal in mind: to submerge the spectator in the claustrophobic universe of an agoraphobic, hoping that he/she would come out of it with pins and needles in his/her legs...and inside his/her head." Pierre-Paul Renders lives in Brussels with his wife and daughter.
