Janet Gaynor Forum

| by Bob If you haven't seen F W Murau's classic silent movie "Sunrise" do yourself a favour and (even if it means going onto Amazon and buying it) watch it ASAP. Even if you consider yourself not to be a fan of the silent screen, I can guarantee that this picture will change your perception of silent film forever. The movie is subtitled "A song of two humans", and presents the story of a peasant farmer (George O'Brien) and his virtuous wife, (Gaynor). I shall give nothing away regarding the plot, but Gaynor's performance has to be seen to be believed. Her complete mastery of her craft is astonishing - and at only 21 too! If Gaynor had never made another film (she did actually make the transition to talkies very successfully) her place in cinema history would be assured by this remarkable performance in a truly wonderful film.
