| by Rick Still This is a brilliant piece of ensemble casting, directed with diamond clarity to reveal the internecine chaos and triumphant epiphanies of a playwright's day-to-day struggle to take a very private craft, and put it in the hands of a few strangers who will interpret it and perform it . The scenes with McCowen ( a playwright played by Kenneth Branagh) and wife (Robin Wright Penn) are amazing in their ability to portray the diapason of the emotional strain in a marriage which is juggling common conjugal trauma, ( she wants a baby and he doesn't) and the more uncommon problems of living under the same roof with a playwright, "Coming off a few bombs". Their emotional bond and mutual respect is so impressive, you find yourself applauding the beauty of marriage and the magic of great acting at the same moment. It is amazing that so much phenomenal acting never loses its balance. Just give it a watch, wouldja? Comment on this... |
