| by Dr Euan Mitchell Lynda Heys' workshop 'The Second Act Story' is an excellent practically based analysis of the second act in a screenplay or indeed genre novel. I attended Heys' Melbourne workshop in 1995 and, in the 11 years since, have applied her analytical model to editing and writing a range of stories of my own and of others, including published novels. In 1995 she made the comment that the first and third acts of story structure are generally well analysed and theorised, but the same could not be said of the second and longest act. She was right.
