Biography #2 (for Drumline)

Charles Stone III directs his second feature film with DRUMLINE following his big screen debut with Dimension Films' upcoming urban drama Paid in Full, starring Mekhi Phifer, Chi McBride and Esai Morales.

The Philadelphia native began his entertainment career in music videos, directing over three dozen projects for celebrated musical artists such as Living Colour, Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, The Vaughan Brothers, and The Roots. One of the hottest young directors to conquer the genre, Stone's unique, energetic blend of animation, written text and live action garnered critical accolades while chalking up numerous music industry awards from such organizations as CEBA, Billboard, The Source and MTV.

Stone, whom critics have dubbed a Renaissance Man, participated in theater acting at nearby Brown University while attending the Rhode Island School of Design, where he received a degree in Fine Arts in 1988. Following graduation, Stone won his first professional creative position as an animator and intern for Woo Art International.

Stone moved into commercial work, creating the memorable Budweiser TV campaign known as Whassuup?!, winner of the International Andy Grandy Award and New York's One Show Gold Award. The filmmaker adapted the spots from his own short film, True, which he wrote, directed and appeared in. That short film is now part of an anthology video entitled Afrocentricity.

While he never performed in a college marching band, Stone has been pounding the skins since his childhood in Philadelphia. Stone has been known to sit in with P.I.C.
