Oliver Hirschbiegel
Hamburg-born Oliver Hirschbiegel studied to be painter. He began his career as a multimedia artist, and his experimental films caught the attention of German television executives. He has been a major force in that industry since the mid 1980's, known for his compelling direction of detective drama and thrillers. His detective series Kommissar Rex has been one of Germany's biggest hits and is seen in more than 40 countries throughout the world.
In 2001 he directed DAS EXPERIMENT, a huge commercial and critical success. The film racked up numerous awards in Germany and abroad including the Bavarian Movie Award, Best Director at Montreal and the People's Choice Award at the Istanbul Festival.
Hirschbiegel lives in Vienna with his wife and two children. DOWNFALL is his third feature film.
