Samantha Mumba
Mumba is best known as a pop singer and songwriter, whose debut single Gotta Tell You topped the charts in her native Ireland, in addition to climbing to #2 in the UK and #4 in the United States. The single is the first from her CD, also titled Gotta Tell You, which also contains the hit singles Baby Come Over and Don't Need You To (Tell Me I'm Pretty).
Born in Dublin, Mumba is the daughter of an Irish mother and Zambian father. She started tap dancing at the age of three and attended Dublin's famed Billie Barry Stage School until she was 15. In 1998, she landed the lead role in The Hot Mikado, a jazzy, modern take on Gilbert and Sullivan's celebrated operetta. Her critically acclaimed performance led to her singing on various Irish television shows. One night, she bluffed her way into a Dublin club by pretending she was an R&B singer from New York, in town to record an album. A friend introduced her to manager Louis Walsh who subsequently helped her launch her songwriting and recording career.
Mumba has recently made appearances on the Radio Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards, as well as on her own Disney Channel concert special. Last summer, she toured with the pop sensation vocal group ‘N Sync.
