missing my friend (Sat Mar 15, 2008 3:32am ET)report post
by tj johnson
As a young girl of 16, I had the opportunity to do a show with Clifton in San Bernardino California. It was the greatest experience! My fondest memory being the time we went to the mall for cookies! him and Priscilla making me do my homework. The gigles for no reason. I was able to keep in touch with him until I went into the military. Since then I've been trying to reconnect with my friend not because he's famous, but because I miss our talks and ..my friend. Maybe one day amidst the business of living, I'll find him!! TJ

i enjoy watching reruns of Amen and want to know if Clifton has any new movie or TV ventures. I have been trying to find out about Mr. Davis. For example, where does he currently reside; is he married and does he have children.

I think clifton davis is a sweet person. I enjoy watching his movies and t.v. shows, he is a great admirer and I thought he was very sexy when he played the rev. on the amen show.

during the early nineties i had the occasion to work with clifton's brother cederick (i did not know at the time cederick was clifton's brother). i was a child protective service worker for the state of arizona. cederick helped me out several times with extremely hard to place young girls. young girls whom may have had to remain in juvenile lock ups had it not been for the dedication and generosity of mr cederick davis. i saw an article in a local black publication that rev clifton davis had visited his brother in the phoenix area. i was a little surprised but was able to really associate through genetic similarities and good deeds that they were related.

It was sad to me that Clif has again set aside his Seventh-Day Adventist foundation. It's even sadder that he went to a Baptist persuation who still teach that our wonderful Lord would burn the wicked in hell never ending. Being raised in that environment kept me from fully loving and knowing God as I have since knowing Seventh Day Adventism. My faith has jumped for joy since then.

I can't see how Clif knows what he's doing but it appears that being part of the "main stream" is very important to Him and keeping up his former level of famousness. His singing and entertaining is still good but inspiring? Does something seem missing to anyone else?

I first met Clif when he was at Andrews Univ. completing his divinity degree. He stopped his car where I was walking down the road and asked were the swimming pool was. I felt that his face was familiar, but I didn't say, "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?" As it turns out, it was best that I didn't because he appeared a little wounded that I didn't acknowledge him as a celebrity. But later I recalled that he was a familiar face from TV some years before. Maybe my response allowed Clif to see that his famousness or talent should not be considered a factor in how God would call him to service.

Whatever Clif accomplished as an entertainer should have been laid aside and he humble himself to let God place him where his spiirtual gifts would be best developed, even if that were to start off in ministry pastoring a little church.

Apparently that wasn't the way Clif wanted to see it.

regards, Ken

A Great Man (Sat Nov 16, 2002 4:05pm ET)report post

Rev. Davis has obviously been appropriately typecast as the Reverend.

He is alleged to have had a significant spiritual experience that caused him to come to a relationship with Jesus--that led him to his religious occupation.

As I understand it, he was sitting at his kitchen table, ready to kill himself with a gunshot to the head. He asked him if there was any reason to live, to send him a miraculous sign. At that moment his brother (from Ohio I believe) called him, because a supernatural voice told him to call him--that he was planning on killing himself.

He didn't and the rest is history.

Rev. Clifton Davis--a great man.

CORRECTION: THE PERSON HE ASKED FOR A SIGN FROM WAS GOD.

Clifton and I were roommates in high school at Pine Forge Inst., Pine Forge, Pa. Cliff could always sing and act. We lived around the corner from each other when he was at Oakwood college.
