Biography #2 (for Elle Enchanted)
Anne Hathaway is a familiar face to millions of moviegoers thanks to her breakout, leading role in Garry Marshall's 2001 hit The Princess Diaries. Starring as a high school girl who finds out she is the princess of a small country, Hathaway was able prove her comedic timing opposite Julie Andrews. She went on to be named one of People Magazine's Breakthrough Stars of 2001 and was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Best Actress/Comedy. She will reprise her role in Princess Diaries 2. Hathaway went on to appear in Douglas McGrath's acclaimed Nicholas Nickleby and will also star in Barbara Kopple's Havoc.Born in Brooklyn, Anne was the first and only teenager admitted to the acting program at the award-winning The Barrow Group in New York City. She is also a talented soprano and, just three days before being cast in the television series Get Real, had the privilege of performing in two concerts at famed Carnegie Hall as a member of the All- Eastern U.S. High School Honours Chorus.
For theatre, Hathaway also studied at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey and at the inaugural pre-college summer program at the Collaborative Arts Project, CAP 21, which is affiliated with New York University. She most recently garnered the Clarence Derwent Award for her performance as Lili in Carnival.

Anne Hathaway appears in the upcoming independent film The Other Side of Heaven, and starred in last year's Fox drama series Get Real. Her performance as Meghan Green in the critically acclaimed series earned her a nomination as Choice Actress/Television at the 2000 Teen Choice Awards, and a nomination as part of Best Performance in a Television Series/Young Ensemble for the 2000 Young Artists Awards. Hathaway was the first teenager admitted to the acting program at the award winning The Barrow Group in New York City, and as a member of the All-Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus she had the privilege of performing as first soprano in two concerts at Carnegie Hall.Hathaway studied at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey and at the inaugural pre-college summer program at the Collaborative Arts Project, CAP 21, which is affiliated with New York University. Among the productions in which she appeared at Paper Mill were Gigi, Jane Eyre and Life on Earth. She performed as Princess Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress, for which she was nominated for the Paper Mill's Rising Star Award for Best High School Performance by an Actress.
Since completion of principal photography on The Princess Diaries, she has enrolled as a freshman at a top-tier East Coast liberal arts college where she recently made the Dean's List.
