A remarkably versatile actor with marked skills behind the camera, Ryan Hurst is best known for his breakout performance starring opposite Denzel Washington in Disney's mega-hit Remember the Titans, for which he also directed the film's second unit footage. Additional high-profile feature film roles include Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, the Coen Brothers' The Ladykillers with Tom Hanks, We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson, Patch Adams with Robin Williams and Rules of Engagement with Samuel L. Jackson. Recent independent film work includes starring in Noble Things with Michael Parks and Chasing the Green alongside Jeremy London.
Hurst's 15 years of steady, wide-ranging television credits include Steven Spielberg's Taken (mini-series, 10 episodes), TNT's action packed cop drama Wanted (13 episodes) and CBS's Emmy award winning Medium (three seasons, reoccurring).
Among his professional theater credits Hurst's starring role in The Last Night of Ballyhoo with Rhea Pearlman and Rebecca Gayheart earned him the Best Performance in a Comedy award from Backstage West. The Viking Underground Repertory, Hurst's Equity Theater Production Company, debuted to rave reviews in 2004 with its newly adapted production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, in which Hurst starred, directed and produced. Currently, the Viking Underground is in residence at the newly renovated, 1300 seat Barnum Hall Theater and consistently produces award-winning classical theater and original works.
In 2005, following production of Kesey, a 35mm short film, which he produced, directed, wrote, and edited, Hurst founded Fast Shoes Productions, with his wife Molly Cookson. Heading a full-time staff comprised of acquisitions, development, legal, multi-media, and production departments, Hurst and Cookson stockpiled a meticulously select slate of internationally marketable intellectual properties. With projects encompassing feature films diverse in profitable genres, sitcoms, half-hour one camera comedies, one hour dramas, reality TV shows and a musical mini-series, Fast Shoes is strategically pursuing Hollywood's most allusive Brass Ring: The Mini-Major Studio.
Hurst makes his feature length directorial debut with the film adaptation of Noah Levine's best-selling memoir, Dharma Punx in 2009.
