Wood Harris

Wood Harris began appearing in plays at a very young age. He will portray the title role in Showtime's Hendrix, the long-awaited drama about rock music legend Jimmy Hendrix, which debuts this September. In preparing for Hendrix, he undertook the challenge of learning to play the guitar left-handed.

He is best known for his role in New Line's Above the Rim, starring the late renowned rap artist, Tupac Shakur. His performance in The Morning Side Prep won him the Best Actor Award given by New York 1st Run Films Festival in 1996, as well as the award for Best Actor from the Pan African Film Festival. Harris can also be seen in As Good As it Gets and in Woody Allen's Celebrity. He is currently shooting the Miramax/Dimension drama Paid in Full.

On television, Harris' credits vary from The Cosby Show, New York Undercover to a recurring role on NYPD Blue.

Harris holds a Master of Fine Arts from New York University. His credits there include roles in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Piano Lesson, The Marriage of Figaro, Cymbeline and The Rhinoceros. On the public stage, Harris has performed for the CSC Theatre in Waiting for Lefty and in A Soldier's Play for the Valient Theater.

A native of Chicago, Harris now spends time on both coasts, living in Los Angeles and New York.
