He has charsma, a positive stage presence in films, and yes, could easily play a lead romantic role in a major film -- hidden behind all the near-East culturalism which he seems forever cast to play, he has the inklings of being sexy too! Cast him in a John Grisham type story plot playing an westernized professional solving a mystery with a 'he-gets-the-girl' at near the fadeout and you'll end up with a mega-winner ($$$$$) of a movie.
