Running Blind (Thu Sep 25, 2003 6:12pm ET)report post
by Marcel de Groene
I saw this series when I was about 12 years of age. Since the introducing of the Internet in our house about four years ago I'm trying to get this video but so far without any luck. I hope some of the readers here can help me out because i would love to see it again. I have read the book over and over again.

Stuart Wilson is a versatile and under-rated actor who started in TV in the UK in the 1970's playing guest roles in some of the top UK TV series like the PROFESSIONALS and the SWEENEY.
Has worked with top actors and directors, including Martin Campbell ( in No ESCAPE, MASK OF ZORRO, and VERTICAL LIMIT) who is most complimentary on his professionalism and ability to breathe life into a character and added dimension to the scripted lines (see DVD of Mask of Zorro - Director's Commentary)
Tall, dark and handsome, and still quite youthful looking now in his mid-60's (easily handling 20 year age gaps with minimal makeup in LUZHIN DEFENCE and MASK OF ZORRO), he also changes his appearance frequently with beards and moustaches, rarely appearing clean shaven, and although clearly well-known for his abilities within the film world, cleverly manages to keep well out of the limelight.
Lead roles include the excellent but little known BBC production of Desmond Bagley's RUNNING BLIND set in Iceland, PRISONER OF ZENDA, ROMANCE ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, and Vronsky in BBC's 1997 mini-series ANNA KARENINA.
Adapts to many different roles, often playing villains, such as in DOUBLE KILL, LETHAL WEAPON 3, VOICE OF THE HEART and TO BE THE BEST. Does quite a lot of his own stunts, such as running, fight scenes and enthusiastic and astonishing swordsmanship.
Best roles: Running Blind, Mask of Zorro, Death and the Maiden (this is a 3 person-only thriller, and he is not even mentioned on the Video cover next to Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver) and Prime Suspect.

I absolutely agree with your review of Stuart Wilson's film career. It is interesting to note the difference between his career and actor Sam Neill, as both of these fine, talented men performed in the tv production of Ivanhoe in 1982. While Sam played the main villain and Stuart his friend, both knights fighting for the evil Prince John, Sam has gone on and is now a household name after Jurassic Park. However, Stuart, despite his remarkable performances in films such as Death and the Maiden and Martin Campbell's No Escape and Mask of Zorro continues to remain out of the limelight. Stuart Wilson is an extremely handsome and talented actor, and often hides his good looks behind glasses or facial hair in his roles, which is possible a reason why he is not as well-known as Mr. Neill. I have watched both actors through the years, and while Mr. Neill takes on blockbuster roles, Mr. Wilson keeps to the more arthouse films. I hope that Stuart Wilson will not be a stranger to US movie audiences now that he has returned to England, and that Martin Campbell might propell him to the forefront of our attention in his next role, which while Mr. Wilson is known for playing villains, he certainly is quite capable of playing the lead; a romantic lead would be preferablly, despite his being in his mid-60's, he remains a dynamic presence on the screen.

I also agree and fyi Mr. Wilson is not in his mid 60's he was born in 1946 on Christmas day i believe...i do not go to the movies but i do love his performances and watch what i can on tv i would love to have a full biography of him but cannot find much info which may be because of his want of privacy....i feel he is under rated as an actor and that he does breathe life into the characters he plays i enjoy him very much....
