| by Dom I had the misfortune to be cast in Wallace Shawn's play David and Sarah while at drama school. To call it a play is a wild over statement as 'the piece' is no more than an exercise in glorified typing. No plot. No emotions. No direction. Nothing. Ah! But it is driven by dialogue you say. Well the dialogue isn't funny, interesting or clever (even though it thinks it is...) With playwrites like Wallace Shawn walking the earth it is of no surprise that theatre is in the biggest slump since it's inception in Ancient Greece. Comment on this... |

| by tim brustkern a friend and i met wallace shawn on a street in iowa city while students at the university of iowa. despite our inquiries regarding bit parts in films familiar to us, he was both gracious and engaging. whereas many bright playwrights would turn up their noses at our questions , mr. shawn was more than accommodating.
