A great actor who, nevertheless, always seemed to be destined for supporting roles only - and a fine job he made of these, frequently stealing the spotlight from the principals ! He had a wonderful face - not pretty by any means but full of character and capable of a wide range of expressions. In view of this, it is a pity that his profile on this website does not include a photographic portrait. He deserves better than a cartoon pawn-piece !

He had that aura that was both comic and deep at the same time. The scene in 'The Wild Bunch' where he ends up with the empty whiskey bottle shows this. He could be menacing, incompetent and sad, but also, almost always likeable. Best work: "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia".
