Danny Boyle Biography (2)
Director Danny Boyle, producer Andrew MacDonald and screenplay writer John Hodge have worked together continuously since their first feature film. Through Macdonald's company, Figment, they made a startling debut in 1994 with the critically acclaimed, box-office hit Shallow Grave starring Christopher Eccleston, Kerry Fox and Ewan McGregor. The team's second film, Trainspotting, is considered by many to be a milestone in recent British cinema and has become one of the highest-grossing British films of all time. In 1996 they went to the U.S. to make A Life Less Ordinary starring Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz. That same year, Macdonald and Boyle acted as co-executive producers of Twin Town directed by Kevin Allen. Their next project was Alien Love Triangle written by Hodge, a short feature for Miramax starring Kenneth Branagh, Courteney Cox and Heather Graham. The Beach is the trio's fifth collaboration.
