| by Richard J. Lovell "Do you believe Samuel L. Jackson being a Black American actor makes him distinguishable as an auteur within Hollywood?" What is an Auteur? For those who may not be aware of what this word means here is a short definition of it; for those who may know what is meant by an Auteur there probably won't be a reason why you must read this, but reading this could probably help you to understand where I am coming from with my question above. An Auteur in the area of film making and production is a 'Filmmaker who has a personal style and keeps creative control over his or her works'. In a sense the a filmmaker goes beyond just making the film (Director auteur) or acting within it (Actor auteur). It almost becomes a piece of art, and their occupation becomes more of an artistic occupation as opposed to just a job. There are more elements to what makes a filmmaker an auteur, but for the sake of simplicity this is a just brief look behind the entire Auteur Theory. Auteur's are usually recognized as an Actor or a Director, despite the involvement of a production crew. Some examples of Actors or Directors which could be considered to be auteur's are: - Tim Burton - Quentin Tarantino - Robert DeNiro - Jackie Chan These are just some mentioned to be recognized as auteur's and a weird list on my behalf sorry :-/ (Note not my personal selection or point of view) Comment on this... |

| by A. Dacosta Brathway In my opinion, Samuel L. is the best at the craft right now. Unfortunately, the business does not think so which is the reason why he will never be recognized as such. Pound for pound, Samuel L. brings more to the table when it comes to intensity and passion to a character. Sam is the man, no doubt. Comment on this... |
