| by MichaelB. Underrated movie. I agree with a NY Times description as a Kurosowa Roshoman exersize in Trueth. Very perceptive performances all over, especially important the male actors; their subtle rationalizations to themselves and each other led to their group rape of her. This was rape! To describe the theme as female empowerment is superficial. Ms Quinlans performance was crucial and dead on ...innocense, trust and enthusiasm were crushed. These men were her co workers/friends."This above all else my son to thine own self be true.." how often have we all stepped over that line. Take a couple of steps back and observe our own whisperrings to ourselves. Good film; a "contemporary" Roshamon. Comment on this... |

| by Raj Kathleen ran (occasionally) in a crowd on the West Side that I ran in (occasionally) in the '70s. Most of us were trend-obsessed, materialistic, pseudo-together and clueless. She seemed to be -none- of the above, and actually an embodiment of the objectivism we all -claimed- we were into. One of the other women (a big leaguer, herself) thought Miss Q and I would be a nice fit and sought to prod us together, but I knew better even then. (I think I would have been about as interesting to her as a dogsled ride through the Bronx.) I clawed at my scalp for quite a while when I saw her in "The Doors," however. The character was soooooooooooooooo unlike the "her" I'd ever seen, but seemed so drawn from personal experience. A real "actor" is a real "actor," I guess. Comment on this... |

| by Terrence Parkhurst I first remember seeing Kathleen Quinlan in a movie called "The Lifeguard" wherein which she played a 16 year old with a crush on a lifeguard, portrayed by Sam Elliott. She was, in fact, 22 years old at the time but she played the part with a kind of understated senuous quality and a sadness. Of all the women in the film, she seemed to understand the main character best, but was too young for him. It was an interesting role. By the time she played a journalist who had an affair with Jim Morrison in "The Doors" Kathleen Quinlan had shown she has talent and an appeal that is timeless. "Apollo 13" was the proverbial icing on the cake. As she ages, I believe we can look forward to perhaps some of the most interesting work of her career. Comment on this... |

| by L. St. Mary I saw a Kathleen Quinlan movie in the late 70's that I believe was called "THE GIFT" or maybe it was "THE GIFT OF LOVE", but she played a car crash victim who agreed to end her love affair with the son of a wealthy family who didn't want her in the "clan". It was a really good film, and I can't believe nobody on "Filmbug" is even aware of this movie. Where can I get a copy of it? Why don't you recognize it? I know I am not imagining this movie, I remember it well. Comment on this... | ||||
