| by August West San Mateo, Calif., October 13, 2006 - 7thScreen.com has released OBSCURA, the documentary of Jim Morrison's movie, FIRST LOVE, for on-line distribution. The film can be found on Google Video @ http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2367311073339650137 Before becoming lead singer of The Doors, Jim Morrison studied film at Florida State University prior to his transfer to the film department of the University of California, Los Angeles. 42 years ago Morrison created his only surviving film starring his roommate Max Schwartz, who helped him out when Morrison threatened to become homeless. With the obscure print still in his possession, Schwartz, now a poet- photographer, leads us around his studio while talking about his friendship with Morrison, about the last day they plunged into a swimming pool in Bel Air ('the last innocent day of our lives') and about the love of Schwartz life, Liz, whom he eventually lost. The documentary comes to a climax with FIRST LOVE shown in it's entirety. What is truly unique about the film is the viewer's ability to actually look through the eyes of Jim Morrison. OBSCURA also provides the missing strand needed to sequence the creative DNA that produced the artists Jim Morrison and The Doors. Morrison's simulated sex scene, phallic symbolism and preoccupation with voyeurism manifest itself later as a performer and is already distinctly present in this early document. | by Mojo Dead I enjoyed your bio on J.D.Morrisons life, thankyou.Jimbo's life was short by our standards ,dead at 27 but in those 7 years of luxury he traveled a lifetime. He died by his own reckless behavior, his legacy is huge,he introduced young people to books and he kept alive poetry in America as it exists today. 146 I.Q.The truth is Jim suffered a nervous breakdown when he was about 26 and due to alchohol ,cocaine and all the acid from years before he never recovered. Jim Morrison was a very physically strong person,Morrison= son of a moor.Sorry to rush but must. 12 hours after he died in Paris his father was laying to rest the nuclear ship he was the admiral on for the Navy. | by lizardking The Doors were one of the most influential bands of all time. They werent hippies, while everyone else at that time was into love and life, the Doors explored death and sex. The combination of three enormously talented musicians with the bluesy voice and poetic lyrics of Jim Morrison resulted in one of the greatest and most unique bands of all time. I strongly suggest that people stay away from the 'greatest hits' and 'best of' albums and buy the studio recordings to see what the band was really about. my site - http://www.devoted.to/doorslife Comment on this... |

| by Nikkita I guess I am the first person to comment on Morrison, it's a shame that there are not other forums dedicated to him. But I will start by saying I was born 5 days after Jim died. I am a avid music historian and though many rockstar's are famous, Morrison in my opinion had pioneered the way for what rock n roll is today. His trials and tribulations of his "no fear" attitude has influenced people to show their individuality. Unfortunatley, his untimley death was a tragedy. There are many famous music pioneer's that come and go, but even when I am 80 years old, I will remeber Jim Morrison and still be disappointed that I had never got to know him personally and feel his energy and see his talent first hand. Rock on Lizard King!!! Comment on this... |
