those were the days. . . (Wed Oct 8, 2003 3:08pm ET)report post

Back in the early '70's I played on a Central Park softball team that was a spinoff from the Oh!Calcutta Broadway Show league.

Alan was one of the players on the team. Not a star, but he showed up and put his heart into it. We both left the team in 1976, Alan for Hollywood, and I left due to frustration (I got into a screaming match with one of the long time umps in Central Park- Jocko, a little old monkey of a man- and decided I needed a different perspective on life. )Besides I was in the process of changing jobs, and getting married.

Those were some great times. I used to play as a ringer on teams in the Broadway Show league, and then also the Broadway Showbusiness league, a spin-off for teams that weren't directly connected with a Broadway show. The team Alan and I played on, the Erratic Coalition, was in a Saturday league that started out as a church sponsored league but became a general membership league when the reverend died. We had some excellent fast pitch teams.
