Robbie Rist

Robbie Rist (born 1964) is an actor. As a child he played Cousin Oliver in the final season of The Brady Bunch. In the late 1970s, he co-starred in a Saturday morning show called Big John, Little John. In 1980, Rist played Dr. Zee on Galactica 1980. Rist grew up to be the voice actor for one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Michelangelo), and lead singer/guitarist for several rock bands (Wonderboy, the Andersons, Cockeyed Ghost, Queef, Wicked Queer, to name a few) from Los Angeles. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, the list of west coast pop bands Rist has performed with numbers in the hundreds. Rist is also a well-known voice actor and from 1984 to 1987, he supplied the voice for the character Whiz in the Saturday morning cartoon Kidd Video. Rist's most recent role is as the voice of Akimichi Choji in the United States release of the anime title Naruto. He currently divides his time between film and music production, and performing with L.A. alt-country band Kingsize Maybe.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show & the Hairbrush Joke

In 1976 & 1977, Rist played David Baxter (Ted Baxter's son), on the television program The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Even though he only appeared in three episodes, he has the distinction of telling the punchline to one of the funniest jokes in the history of the series.

In the episode My Son, the Genius (November, 6 1976), Ted Baxter (Ted Knight) drags David (Rist) into Lou Grant's (Edward Asner) office in order to spank him. Lou initially tries to persuade Ted not to discipline him. Ted insists on spanking him and asks (a very bald) Lou if he has a hairbrush that he can borrow. David then says, Now what would he be doing with a hairbrush?
