Elizabeth Perkins Biography (3)

An actress who has distinguished herself with an eclectic mix of roles, Elizabeth Perkins made her New York theatrical debut in 1984 in Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs. She subsequently worked with Playwrights' Horizon, the Ensemble Studio Theatre, The New York Shakespeare Festival and the Steppenwolf Theater. More recently she starred on stage in John Patrick Shanley's black comedy Four Dogs and a Bone at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles.

Perkins' recent feature credits include the hit comedy 28 Days, in which she co-starred with Sandra Bullock; Crazy in Alabama, directed by Antonio Banderas and co-starring Melanie Griffith and David Morse; and the 1998 drama I'm Losing You.

Perkins made her feature film debut in Ed Zwicks' About Last Night, an adaptation of David Mamet's play, Sexual Perversity in Chicago. Her breakthrough performance came in 1988 opposite Tom Hanks in the smash hit Big, directed by Penny Marshall, and she went on to receive critical acclaim for her performance in Barry Levinson's Avalon. She also starred in The Doctor, He Said, She Said, and Indian Summer before bringing cartoon character Wilma Flintstone to life in The Flintstones. Her other films include Miracle on 34th Street, Moonlight and Valentino, From the Hip; Sweethearts Dance, Love at Large; Enid is Sleeping, and Lesser Prophets.

Among her television projects are For Their Own Good, Baby 2000, The Rescuers" for Barbra Streisand's Barwood Productions, the acclaimed HBO series From the Earth to the Moon, If These Walls Could Talk 2 and, more recently, Battery Park.

Currently, Perkins is filming What Girls Learn, for Showtime.
