Conrad Veidt
Conrad Veidt (full name Hans Walter Conrad Weidt) was a German actor. He was born January 22, 1893 in Potsdam, Germany and died April 3, 1943 in Hollywood, California, USA. Though never exactly a superstar, in the 27 years between 1916 and his death, he managed to act in well over 100 movies, some of them classics, such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) or Casablanca (1942). In addition, his starring role in the The Man Who Laughs was the inspiration for Batman's greatest enemy, The Joker.
