Born and raised in Ireland, John Lynch's film credits include: Terry George's Some Mother's Son with Helen Mirren;This is the Sea, Moll Flanders, Nothing Personal, Angel Baby, The Secret of Roan Inish, Words Upon a Windowpane, In the Name of the Father, The Secret Garden, Michael White's Railway Station Man, Derek Jarman's Edward II, Hardware, 1871, and Pat O'Connor's Cal in which he also co­starred with Helen Mirren.

Television includes: Peak Practice (Central TV); Young Indy (Lucas Film); Small Change (Channel 4); Shrinks (Zenith); Out of the Blue (BBC); The Roughest Way (BBC); Chimera (Zenith); Who Bombed Birmingham? (Granada); Making Out (BBC); Total Eclipse (LOOT and Great Writers ­ James Joyce (LWT).

Theatre includes Hamlet (Abbey Theatre, dir: Fiona Shaw); Electra (Riverside/Bobigny); The Way South, By the Border and The Strangeness of Others (all for the National Theatre); The Tutor (Old Vic); Infidelities (Lyric, Hammersmith); Up to the Sun Down the Centre (Royal Court); Arturo VI, Oh What a Lovely War, Scraps and The Tempest (all at the Contact Theatre, Manchester); The Seagull (Lyric Hammersmith/Queens) and Nicolas Nickleby directed by Trevor Nunn for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
